Why Quinta Do Lago North Golf Course Is Worth Visiting

The Quinta do Lago luxury estate has a new addition to its already fantastic golfing facilities – the Quinta do Lago North Golf Course. This wonderful course was the talking point among the golfing community in 2014. The new revamped North Golf Course has been hailed as the new star addition to the Algarve region. Has it lived up to the hype it has created? Why should golfers visit the Quinta do Lago North Golf Course? Let’s find out.

  • Golf courses are designed for the public; to satisfy their expectations and needs. Interestingly, expectations vary and only golf architects of the highest caliber can design courses that can satisfy everyone. To create a golfer-friendly course that challenges the precision and strategizing skills of the players, two popular personalities – Paul McGinley, European Ryder Cup Capitan, and Beau Welling, American architect were hired.

  • Millions of dollars have been invested in restructuring the course and infusing state-of-the-art technology into the system. Bunkers, greens, and tees were rebuilt and new drainage and irrigation systems were put in place. To create an environment where everyone can enjoy golf each hole was built with four tees. A number of measures have been taken to make the course enjoyable for golfers of all levels. The approach around the green has been laid with low-cut Bermuda grass. Environmentally friendly measures such as the use of solar energy and recycled water, introduction of native tree, grass species, and cool season rough grass have been adopted.

  • Awards of excellence are not new to the Quinta do Lago North Golf Course. Since its opening in 1972, it has won many honors, locally and internationally.

  • The most challenging hole on the course is the 12th. Players will have to use every ounce of their golfing skill at this hole. You’ve to hit over a lake and dodge the bunkers near the green to find the pin. The Quinta do Lago North has a number of excellent holes. There are four par-5s and many par-4s. Except for the 10th and 13th, all the other par-4s are doglegs. Lakes adorn the 13th and 18th hole, so golfers need to be at their best here. Keep in mind that strong wind plays a key role in most of the par-3s.

  • The popularity of a golf course can be gauged by the percentage of repeat visitors. More than a quarter of the golfers visiting the course have played here more than once. That’s an incredible feat for a course in Algarve, which is famous for world-class golf courses.
