Spending Golf Holidays In Portugal: Algarve Hotels And Resorts
The big advantage for any golfer staying at an Algarve golf resort is that most resorts in the region have multiple courses on one site. Having three or more courses to choose from on any given day means you will not get bored playing the same course over and over. You can play a different course every day without leaving the resort.
While there are many Algarve golf resorts to choose from, in this article we have focussed on three that will serve as excellent starting points for golfers new to the area.
- Quinta Do Lago
- Penina
- Praia Del Rey Marriott Golf & Beach Resort
Turn west out of Faro Airport and head towards the Ria Formosa nature park. Eventually you’ll arrive at the Quinta Do Lago resort and its three courses: Laranjal, The North and The South.
The South is said to be the toughest of the three and plays host to the Portuguese Open on a regular basis. The Laranjal, in contrast, is easier and is more suited for newbie players.
Golfers who prefer to tinker with their games rather than play can get expert golfing instruction at the Paul Mcginley golf academy. Once they’ve got their swing in the groove, they can et their clubs fitted perfectly at the on-site club fitting center.
It might be hard to fathom today, but at one time there was no golf in the Algarve. In fact, the moon had seen more golfing action than the Southern region of Portugal. That is, until British Open Champion and ex-Ryder Cup captain, Sir Henry Cotton came along and designed Penina.
The three course at Penina are: The Academy Course (nine holes but don't underestimate the challenge), The Resort Course, and The Championship Course designed by the late Sir Cotton.
The resort recently blew out 50 candles on a birthday cake. One night at the five star hotel will show you that class is permanent.
While the Praia Del Rey Marriott doesn’t have the old-school charm of a resort like Penina (you will feel like you are at an exclusive resort in Florida or California) you will enjoy the luxurious surroundings and state-of-the-art golfing facilities.
If you don’t mind missing out on some local culture and Portuguese cuisine, the Praia Del Rey is a true five-star experience. Why bother flying across the Atlantic when you can experience resort golf in Southern Europe.
